Chapter 265: Happy Enemies
Chapter 265: Happy Enemies
The bus stop was packed with people.
Large and small suitcases, colorful woven bags, and some people were carrying plastic bags filled with bread and water.
A group of young people stood on tiptoe, craning their necks, looking at the bus route on the bus stop sign, their eyes squinting, their mouths reciting, as if they were doing some kind of intricate math problem.
He's definitely a freshman, no doubt about it.
Xiao Yunqing stood at the edge of the crowd, tiptoed and glanced at the bus stop sign. It was densely packed with people, and she gave up after looking at it for two seconds.
She turned to look at Song Huan.
He stood away from the crowd, leaning against a lamppost, his hands in his pockets, his face calm, as if he were waiting for a very certain car.
"Huanhuan, shouldn't we check the route? What if we get on the wrong bus?"
Song Huan remained calm. "Impossible."
Xiao Yunqing glanced at him.
She found it a little strange; he had never been to Nanjiang before, so how did he know the route?
But his expression was so certain, so certain that it was hard to doubt him.
She didn't ask any more questions and nodded.
The car is coming.
Song Huan got into the car with her luggage, and Xiao Yunqing followed behind.
Insert coins and find a seat.
The bus started moving, and Xiao Yunqing looked out the window. The students on the platform were still crowded there, standing on tiptoe to look at the bus stop sign, but no one was getting on the bus.
She looked around the carriage again; it was empty except for the two of them and an old man dozing off in the last row.
"Huanhuan, are you sure this is the car? Why is no one else getting on besides the two of us?"
Song Huan leaned back in her chair, crossed her legs, and spoke in a very indifferent tone.
"Because they are all from second-tier universities or junior colleges."
He paused for a moment, then added, "It's just the two of us who are from 985 and 211 universities."
Xiao Yunqing suddenly realized and nodded.
She thought he made a lot of sense.
The two found a seat by the window and sat down.
Song Huan stuffed her luggage under the seat, while Xiao Yunqing placed her bag on her lap and hugged it.
Sunlight streamed in through the window, falling warmly on her face.
She took out her phone and dialed a number.
"Dad, we've arrived in Nanjiang."
Xiao Haifeng's voice was very loud on the other end of the phone; it could be heard even through the receiver.
"It's good that we've arrived. Were you tired on the way? Have you eaten? Where's Song Huan? Is he next to you?"
"Here I am."
Xiao Yunqing glanced at Song Huan, "My dad wants to talk to you."
She handed him the phone.
Song Huan looked puzzled. Why did he want to talk to her?
Is he worried that I'll take his daughter to a hotel?
But when Song Huan took the phone and put it to her ear, her voice immediately changed, becoming as warm and friendly as if she were talking to an old friend she hadn't seen in years.
"Hello, Uncle Xiao, it's me, Song Huan."
Xiao Yunqing looked at him.
He had a smile on his face and his voice was incredibly gentle.
She thought to herself, "They were just saying they were going to a foot massage parlor at the train station, and now they're acting like nice people."
She reached out, pinched the flesh on his waist, and twisted it.
Song Huan's words caught in her throat, her smile instantly twisted, she gasped and grimaced.
Xiao Haifeng, sensing something was wrong, asked over the phone, "What's wrong?"
Song Huan took a deep breath and steadied her voice, "Oh, it's nothing, it's just that Xiao Yunduo was asking a blond guy for his contact information. I tried to stop her, but Xiao Yunduo pinched my waist."
Xiao Yunqing stopped, her eyes widening as she stared at Song Huan in disbelief.
Song Huan continued, her tone as serious as if she were broadcasting the news.
"Yes, yes, yes, it's that kind of guy with the bright yellow hair, dyed yellow hair, riding a will-o'-the-wisp, and tattoos, a big full-sleeve tattoo. Little Cloud is chatting with him right now, and they're having a great time."
Xiao Haifeng was silent for a second.
Then a furious voice burst from the microphone, loud and clear.
"Xiao Yunqing! Let her answer the phone!"
Song Huan chuckled and handed over the phone.
Xiao Yunqing was stunned. She took the phone, but before she could speak, Xiao Haifeng's voice came crashing down on her.
"What's wrong with you? You just arrived in Nanjiang and you're already associating with shady characters? What's with the blond guy? What's with the ghost fire? You're a girl, don't you know you need to be careful?"
Xiao Yunqing panicked, "Dad, no, Song Huan is talking nonsense, I never asked any blond-haired guy for his WeChat..."
Song Huan immediately started acting like a drama queen.
He stood up, threw a punch at the air, and shouted.
"What are you doing? Stay away from her! I'm warning you, don't you dare lay a hand on her!"
He pushed the air again, saying, "If you keep doing that, I'll call the police!"
Xiao Yunqing was so angry at his self-directed and self-acted performance that she couldn't speak.
Xiao Haifeng, who was on the other end of the phone, heard the noise and raised his voice even louder.
"Yunqing, listen carefully. In Nanjiang, stay with Song Huan. Don't wander off or talk to strangers. Call him if anything happens, understand?"
Xiao Yunqing opened her mouth.
"dad……"
"Did you hear that?!"
Xiao Haifeng's voice was beyond question.
Xiao Yunqing gritted her teeth.
"I heard you."
"Alright, give the phone to Song Huan."
Song Huan took the phone and switched to her usual friendly tone.
"Uncle Xiao, don't worry, I will make sure Xiaoyun gets to school safely. With me here, no one will dare to bully her."
Xiao Haifeng responded with a soft "hmm" on the other end.
"I trust you to handle things. Okay, you go ahead with your work. You must keep that blond guy at bay."
The phone hangs up.
Song Huan held her phone, still in that position, and was still talking.
"Don't worry, don't worry, it's definitely true."
He turned around and saw Xiao Yunqing sitting next to him, arms crossed, looking at him with a gloomy expression.
Song Huan's heart sank.
broken.
Before he could put his phone down, Xiao Yunqing punched him in the arm.
This wasn't a joke; it was a real, forceful effort.
Song Huan shrank back slightly, "Let me explain..."
Another punch.
Another punch.
She hit him several times, and when she finished, her chest was still heaving as she glared at him.
"What nonsense are you spouting? What blond hair? What will-o'-the-wisp? What full-sleeve tattoo?"
Song Huan rubbed her arm, wincing, "I did that to put Uncle Xiao's mind at ease, didn't I? See, when he's worried about you, he won't let you run around. You're safe, and I'm relieved too..."
Xiao Yunqing was so angry that she hit him again, "You did it on purpose."
Song Huan chuckled, not denying it.
The two bickered for a while, then quieted down.
The bus drove along the street, and the buildings outside the window gradually became shorter, turning into trees, and then into mountains.
Xiao Yunqing leaned against the window, looking outside. After a while, she suddenly frowned.
"Huanhuan, why are there trees all around us?"
Song Huan also glanced out the window and frowned.
It's not the trees that are the problem, it's the mountain.
The surrounding area is all mountains, stretching endlessly, one after another.
The city has disappeared from sight.
Song Huan stood up and walked to the driver's side. "Sir, could you tell me how far it is to Donghai University?"
The driver glanced at him in the rearview mirror, looking completely bewildered.
"What's Tunghai University?"
Song Huan was taken aback for a moment, "It's Donghai University, the one opposite Nanjiang University."
"The universities in Nanjiang are all in the city center, and I'm driving out of the city to Qixia Mountain."
The driver said, "Did you get on the wrong bus?"
Song Huan's face froze.
He walked back and sat down.
Xiao Yunqing looked at him. "What's wrong?"
Song Huan didn't say anything.
"Song Huan?"
He still didn't say anything.
Xiao Yunqing grew anxious, "What happened?"
Song Huan turned her head and looked at her, her expression complicated.
"We got on the wrong bus."
Xiao Yunqing was stunned. "What?"
"This is the bus to Qixia Mountain, it's leaving the city, it's not going to the school."
The carriage fell silent.
Xiao Yunqing looked at him, and he looked at her.
The wind blew in, blowing her hair onto her face, but she didn't brush it away.
After several seconds, Xiao Yunqing's voice was squeezed out from between her teeth.
"Didn't you say it was impossible to sit in the wrong seat?"
Song Huan touched her nose.
"Accident."
"Didn't you say they all had associate degrees or second-tier college degrees?"
Song Huan touched her nose again.
"Accident."
"Didn't you say there were only two of us at the 985/211 universities?"
Song Huan touched her nose again.
"Accident."
Xiao Yunqing took a deep breath and then punched him on the shoulder.
"Didn't you say you were very familiar with it!"
Song Huan shrugged, not flinching, "This is my first time in Nanjiang too, how could I possibly know it well?"
"The way you were acting just now, it was like you'd lived here before!"
"I just had a feeling..."
"Feeling? You're taking me on a ride based on your feelings?"
"I feel like it's pretty accurate..."
"Accurate? Accurate enough to get out of the city?"
Xiao Yunqing was so angry that she couldn't speak.
Song Huan lowered her head, like a child who had done something wrong.
Looking at him like that, Xiao Yunqing wanted to scold him but couldn't bring herself to do so.
She was both angry and amused when she recalled how he had patted his chest and made promises to Xiao Haifeng on the phone earlier.
She turned her face to the side and looked out the window.
Outside the window, there were still mountains, one after another, endlessly.
She sighed. "What do we do now?"
Song Huan looked up. "Get off at the next stop and then take the train back."
Xiao Yunqing didn't speak, but looked out the window.
I feel like being with Song Huan is truly the legendary bickering couple.
