Chapter 332 - 332: The day of reckoning
Many other province lords and other nobles were worth enough to have a personal army, be it a regular one, conscripted in a rush, or hired from mercenaries, were sharpening their fangs too.
The news that Farini has some method to cure the plagues that still ravaged the Naregan Kingdom spread to these people.
Until now, the nobles and the High King were more focused on protecting themselves and their lands from the illnesses. The evolving insects were also a problem, because they spread pathogens and killed plants in orchards.
Now, these people all had eyes on the prize, and this prize was Farini's head. And the High King immediately united many of these noble houses, promising to share the cure with them over missives carried with tamed dragons and secretive horseback messengers.
The Agents I had in his palace told me as much.
And they used these messages to travel to these nobles and influence them.
So although many nobles were coming to the call of the High King, many of them were secretly on Farini's side! And others have decided to help Farini openly and even raised his banner when they marched.
Farini promised cure to these nobles as well, and with many of these people, he had time to forge alliances while the High King was hiding from the plagues.
Soon, two armies were going to gather near the capital and fight in a decisive battle. Bloodimina's forces were already hard at work, and reinforcements were sent to them. Almost all the tamed dragons we had and which weren't busy elsewhere carried bees and supplies to Bloodimina, while she planned all the assassinations she would need to execute.
I thought Tamsha would want to take part in preparations for battle, too.
Since the first tests of the immunizing injections, I let Tamsha live closer to Krisha village and ride to work in the Bee Empire on his horse—as long as he was *extremely* careful to not accidentally step on any buildings there.
The constant escort of guards near him helped him to be mindful. They also helped decrease any tensions between Tamsha and other bees.
(But the thing that helped the most is that Tamsha didn't understand the words bees often called him, and didn't even hear them most of the time).
Tamsha helped to dig for clay and various minerals near the Krisha Village (I had to admit that he was effective like a hundred excavators) and clearly considered it to be mostly a list of pointless errands I sent him on to test his patience.
He didn't protest against them, though. Mostly because I told him news about Farini.
'People need a beacon of hope in these dark times more than ever, and Farini is this beacon. Not just thanks to your machinations, Your Majesty,' Tamsha commented on the latest ones. 'I know he will win. Honestly, I'd be fairly useless to him even if I came to his aid. I'm not rich enough to come with a retinue of warriors, and I'm not much of a fighter myself. Almost lost to some birds—an absolute shame!'
'Ha. It's not like any of your warriors are trained to fight against dragons,' I replied to him then. 'But it's good that you realize your limits.'
After this conversation, I asked Re
