Chapter 435 The Possibility of the Time Stone

Compared to researching living zombies, which sounds like a death wish, Joey's idea is green, natural, and slightly harmless.

Soon, Joey pulled something out of his pocket. Tony and the others took a closer look, and lo and behold, it really was green!

Time Stone!

"Do you think we could—"

Joey tossed the shimmering green gem in her hand up and down, drawing everyone's attention.

The Time Stone spun repeatedly in the air, making Tony's heart pound: "Hold that thing steady! Don't let it fall again!"

The energy contained in each Infinity Stone is immeasurable. If Superman were to get bumped or scratched, who knows what kind of trouble he might cause.

Now that Joey has brought this thing out, his thoughts are not hard to guess.

Could they use the Infinity Stones to turn back time and bring everything in New York City back to before the infection spread?

"It seems perfectly reasonable to me," Tony said, then frowned and gasped, "but why does it also feel a little unreasonable?"

His intuition told him that things probably weren't that simple.

Seeing Tony's hesitation, Reed said to him, "Shall we go out and find another living infected person?"

"No, no, no, no—" Tony shook his head at the suggestion. "How about we try this first?"

After all, this was the least risky approach. They had no clue about Superman's cells, and researching living zombies was something that could only be done at noon.

So why not give it a try?

"Okay, let's give it a try." Reed nodded; as long as it solved the problem, he certainly had no objections.

"Then I have no objection either." Tony nodded.

"Let's begin!" Joey clapped his hands.

After a two-second pause, Tony spoke, breaking the awkward silence: "Does anyone here know how to use this thing?"

"Knowing how to use it and being able to use it well are two different things." Reed also reminded him of the potentially fatal problem: "Even if someone can activate the power of the Time Stone, we can't simply and blindly reverse the time of the entire New York City. We must be precise down to each individual and each situation."

The Time Stone isn't like the Power Stone, which relies purely on brute force and miracles. What they want to do here isn't to simply load a save file like in a game.

"To turn back time in New York, you would have to carefully create a lot of restrictions."

If you force a rollback, it's basically equivalent to no rollback at all.

For example, you can't reverse the user's memory, right?

For example, how do you calculate someone who is in New York now but wasn't in New York a few hours ago?

Does this mean the scope has expanded to the entire area surrounding New York, and then to the area surrounding New York?

And so on, it might eventually expand to the entire Earth.

For example, Tony has only been released for less than an hour. If he were to go back in time, would the person inside Tony's body still be himself?

Watching Superman leave, Reed silently began to put on the Iron Man suit he had been preparing to wear.

"What are you doing?!" Tony quickly stopped Reed, halting his reckless behavior: "Superman already has a third method, we can't risk anyone getting infected!"

"Think about it carefully, Stark."

Reed continued to don his bio-immune armor, disagreeing with Superman's idea: "If those magicians really wanted to help, they would have done it already."

Magic is like a chemical formula that only knows the beginning and the end, but has no idea about the reaction process in between. Reed hated this uncontrollable black box. He couldn't entrust the fate of the entire city of New York to some ethereal magic.

"We're the same kind of people, Tony, at least for now." Since Superman wasn't around, Reed decided to be more explicit: "I really don't care what you become in the future, I only care about these tens of thousands of New Yorkers. Believe me, I want to save them just like you do, and I'm willing to take certain risks for it."

"Think it over carefully, Iron Man!" Tony was about to say something more when Reed stopped him, preventing further hesitation: "If Superman's cells can't give us the answer we want; if the Sorcerer Supreme refuses to use the Time Stone; and we haven't taken any action to find a solution—"

This zombie virus is like cancer to the rest of the living on Earth. What do you think will happen to stop it from spreading across the planet?

Even in Tony's universe, cancer has always been an insurmountable obstacle.

To stop the spread of cancer cells, any doctor can only use the simplest and most effective method: sacrificing the small to save the large.

Since cancer cells cannot be cured, the only option is to remove or kill the infected organs and tissues, introducing them to the entire planet and humanity. The implication of this is—

"I'm afraid that at that point we'll have nowhere to retreat and will be forced to make a difficult choice—New York, or the entire world?"

The answer Tony had always been avoiding was laid bare by Mr. Fantastic: "We're already on the edge of a cliff, so do something, Iron Man, maybe it'll leave us a chance to turn things around!"

Tony hesitated for a few seconds, then gritted his teeth and said, "Let's do it!"

It's just finding an infected person who's on the verge of turning into a zombie to study, what's wrong with that!

This should have been the normal procedure for dealing with an epidemic, but the characteristics of the zombie virus made them hesitant and timid.

If everything goes smoothly and the Time Stone works, then what Reed is doing now is a completely risk-free attempt, and all the spread of the virus will be reversed by the Time Stone.
